In his recent podcast interview with Joe Regan, America’s new Vice President-Elect, JD Vance gushed over his love for all things Indian. “Indian cuisine is the real deal,” he quipped, adding, “It’s delicious, flavorful, and there’s so much variety.” Vance suggested skipping the “nasty fake meat.” He also advised vegetarians in the west to “indulge in paneer, rice, and chickpeas.” Waxing eloquent about his wife, Usha Chilkuri Vance, an Indian-origin American lawyer. Usha was born to Indian-immigrant Telugu parents who hailed from West Godavari and Krishna districts in Andhra Pradesh. The couple met at Yale Law School and, after a budding romance, married in 2014. Vance praised Usha’s cooking skills, stating, “The vegetarian food she makes is exceptional.” Endorsing Indian cuisine, he further added, “Turn to Indian cuisine if you want to embrace a vegetarian lifestyle.”

Further along the podcast, JD Vance hilariously recalled the disastrous homemade veggie meal he prepared to impress Usha. He rolled out flat crescent rolls, added raw broccoli on top, sprinkled some ranch dressing, and put the thing into the oven for 45 minutes, dubbing it “my vegetarian pizza” that “was disgusting.” Initially he did not quite understand Indian vegetarian meals but slowly dug into it and realized its richness. He quips, “There is just no comparison.”
