PM Modi’s Birthday Wish Tweet For Pt Jawaharlal Nehru On Children’s Day Triggers Hilarious Memefest

On the 135th birth anniversary of India’s first Prime Minister, Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru, the current PM Shri Narendra Damodardas Modi dropped a birthday bump for his most successful political predecessor ever in Indian politics.

Jawaharlal Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad. The freedom fighter, who was a towering figure among contemporary giants including Mahatma Gandhi, Subash Chandra Bose, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, and Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, among others, Nehru became the first PM of the independent India in 1947. Known for his Fabian socialism, the former barrister and India’s best-selling author served the nation as the PM for 17 years, from 1947 till 1962. Between 1950 and 1955, Pt. Nehru, the ‘architect of modern India’ was nominated 11 times for the Nobel Prize for Peace. Fondly known as Chacha Nehru, the former Prime Minister’s birth anniversary has been officially celebrated as Children’s Day since 1957. However, Nehru’s birthday has been celebrated since the 1940s and only in 1954 was it dubbed as ‘Children’s Day.’ PM Modi, who is the member of the BJP and RSS, the ideological opposite of the Indian National Congress and its ethos, has been largely dismissive and scornful about Pt. Nehru and the larger Gandhi family in his political career. Him and his party at large have blamed Nehru for everything that is wrong with India, several decades after the Independence. Several bhakts thus believe India gained true independence with Modi’s elevation as the Prime Minister in 2014.

Modi’s short tribute tweet for Pt. Nehru’s birth anniversary triggered a memefest. Netizens also took potshots at the current PM for his official obligation to acknowledge the birthday of the first PM of India. Users also corrected the PM on referring to Chacha Nehru as the former Prime Minister and not the first. Salty much?
