Instagram Might Introduce AI-Generated Profile Picture Feature for Customization

Meta is rumored to be working on new AI features across all its social media platforms, and Instagram is set to get an exciting addition. A developer recently reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Instagram is working on a feature that will allow users to create custom profile pictures using AI technology. While details are still limited, it appears that similar features are also being developed for Facebook and WhatsApp.

Developer Alessandro Paluzzi spotted this new option while updating his profile picture on Instagram. The feature, labeled “Create an AI profile picture,” was revealed in a screenshot he shared, giving users a glimpse of what’s to come. He captioned this post as, “#Instagram is working on the ability to create an #AI profile picture 👀”

While the details are scarce, this feature is likely to be powered by Meta’s Llama AI models. For the unversed, the company has already launched Meta AI chatbot for Instagram, WhatsApp, Facebook, based on the same AI model. This AI chatbot can answer all your queries and create images based on the text prompt.

Currently, Instagram allows users to upload a picture from the device, take a photo and create their own avatar when it comes to Instagram profile picture. The rumoured AI image generating tool will allow users to be more detailed and creative.

However, do note that this feature is not confirmed or denied by the company. Hence, the timeline for the feature is unknown, if the company plans to roll it out.

In other news, Instagram Head Adam Mosseri recently announced a new update to the photo-sharing Meta platform, revealing that the app will no longer auto-refresh users’ feeds when reopened after a certain period. This change comes in response to user feedback, as many found the automatic updates disruptive to their browsing experience.
