Google Photos has just rolled out a new feature called the Updates page, designed to make it easier for users to stay on top of the activity happening in their shared albums. With this new addition, tracking photos, conversations, and group updates becomes much simpler, all from one place.
The Updates page acts as a central hub where you can find all the latest notifications about your shared albums. This includes updates such as new photos being added, replies to your messages, new activity in group chats, memory reminders, partner sharing updates, and even storage alerts. Instead of sifting through your entire photo library or manually checking each album, you can now see everything in one streamlined feed.

How It Works: Notifications and Updates at a Glance
To access the new Updates section, all you need to do is tap on the bell icon in the app. This icon will soon replace the old Sharing button, making it much easier to stay up-to-date. Once you’re in the Updates page, everything will be organized chronologically, so you can quickly catch up on new activity from today, yesterday, this week, or even further back.
For example, if someone adds fresh photos to a shared album or comments on a picture you’ve uploaded, you’ll get a notification right there in the Updates section. It’s also where you’ll find alerts about replies in ongoing conversations or group chats. This feature is particularly useful if you regularly share albums with family, friends, or colleagues, as it helps you track ongoing interactions without the need to dig through multiple places in the app.
Introducing “Collections” for Easier Access to Shared Albums
Alongside the Updates page, Google is introducing a brand-new section called Collections. This feature is a one-stop destination to quickly access all your albums, both private and those shared with others. Whether it’s family photos, vacation albums, or work-related collections, everything will be organized in this easy-to-use section. With Collections, you no longer have to scroll endlessly through your library to find specific albums; it’s all neatly organized in one place.
Availability and Rollout
The Updates and Collections pages are currently being rolled out to Android and iOS devices. Although not all users will have access right away, Google is expected to complete the rollout soon, so keep an eye out for these new features. Once available, they promise to significantly improve how users interact with shared albums, making it much simpler to stay informed and organized.
With the launch of the Updates page and Collections section, Google Photos is stepping up its game in helping users manage their photos and shared content. These new features will make it easier to keep track of new activity in your shared albums, whether it’s photos being added, replies in conversations, or memories being shared. Whether you’re sharing family moments, collaborating on projects, or just keeping in touch with friends, these updates will ensure you never miss a beat.
