US President-elect Donald Trump, on Wednesday, officially announced the establishment of Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE meant to cut government spending and curtail regulations.
Trump has endorsed DOGE as the “Manhattan Project of our time.” Its primary mission is to reduce government bureaucracy, eliminate unnecessary regulations, and cut wasteful spending.

DOGE will be led by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.
In an official statement, Trump said that “They will work together to liberate our economy, and make the US government accountable to ‘WE THE PEOPLE’. Their work will conclude no later than July 4, 2026.”

“They seem to forget the money being spent is YOUR MONEY and if it’s not being spent in a way that’s beneficial to the American people, it’s a misuse of funds.” pic.twitter.com/hmu2ZuRlbn

The department’s objective will be ‘dismantling’ government bureaucracy, slashing excess regulation and eliminating wasteful expenditure. “A smaller government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th Anniversary of The Declaration of Independence. I am confident they will succeed!” Trump said.

How much will Elon Musk get paid for leading DOGE?
Musk claims that he won’t get paid for lending his services to DOGE. According to the statement from Trump’s office, the two will “provide advice and guidance from outside of Government” and thus they won’t receive salaries like government employees.
Unlike you, neither of us are being paid, so it is very efficient indeed.@DOGE will do great things for the American people. Let history be the judge.

Musk recently made it clear in an exchange with Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren who took a jibe at DOGE’s ‘efficiency’ saying two people will be doing the job of one.
“Unlike you, neither of us are being paid, so it is very efficient indeed. DOGE will do great things for the American people. Let history be the judge,” Musk wrote on X.
The DOGE will be functional when Trump takes oath as the 47th US President on January 20, 2025.
