Ratan Jain, the producer of the 1993 Bollywood thriller Baazigar, has revealed that discussions about a potential sequel featuring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role are ongoing. Though there is still no definitive script or finalised plan, Jain expressed enthusiasm about the prospect, emphasising that any sequel would only move forward if Shah Rukh himself starred in it.
In a conversation with ETimes, Jain shared his hopes for a second installment but noted that the project would need a fresh and compelling script to live up to the original film’s legacy and fan expectations. “We keep talking to Shah Rukh about Baazigar 2, but not much has happened yet. However, it will definitely be made,” Jain said.

The original Baazigar, directed by Abbas-Mustan, was a pivotal moment in Shah Rukh Khan’s career, especially for its portrayal of a morally ambiguous character. The role initially went to Anil Kapoor, who turned it down due to scheduling conflicts with Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja. Following this, Salman Khan was considered, but his father, Salim Khan, reportedly advised against it due to the film’s darker tones. This led to Shah Rukh’s casting, marking one of his earliest portrayals of an anti-hero.
Upon release, Baazigar received both critical acclaim and commercial success. Alongside Shah Rukh, Kajol and Shilpa Shetty starred in significant roles.
While fans await more concrete details, the news of a possible sequel has stirred excitement, especially given the influence of Baazigar on the anti-hero trope in Indian cinema.
